This year's Youth Pilgrimage to Luján not only brought together the thousands of faithful who usually make this festive and religious journey, but on this occasion they were joined by those who promised to walk to the city of Buenos Aires in case the Argentine National Team was consecrated in the Qatar World Cup 2022. "This promise was kind of crazy. I probably underestimated the chance of it coming to fruition, but hey, now we have to fulfill it," Federico Kotlar, who left after 8 o'clock from the sanctuary of San Cayetano, in the Buenos Aires neighborhood of Liniers, told Télam. Together with his friend Gaspar Zimerman, Federico, a 49-year-old journalist, wore for the walk the blue shirt that the Argentine National Team wore against England in Mexico 1986, with which he also watched all the World Cup matches following that coronation. I was always very passionate about the World Cups, I lived them with joy but also with a lot of nervousness and this one in particular with even more nervousness due to that disappointment with Saudi Arabia. "This World Cup was like a passion that took more and more away from me and ended up being an explosion," he said while putting on the shoes he chose especially for the 60-kilometer route. Gaspar was in charge of buying provisions for the long journey and filled the backpacks with nuts, bananas, sandwiches, water and sunscreen. "We have everything we need. To prepare, I tried to stretch as much as I could this week and bought a knee brace. I also brought cornstarch to put in my shoes," Gaspar said.
