The victim of the incident was Hernán Albano Cochiarella (39), while the detainee is Mauricio Cortez (22), accused of having acted with a minor who remains a fugitive, the spokespersons detailed. The arrest took place after a procedure carried out on 3500 Crucero La Argentina Street, in the Néstor Kirchner neighborhood, in the José C. Paz district, in the northwest of the Buenos Aires suburbs. As detailed by sources to Télam, the young man is accused of the murder of Cochiarella, who was shot to death twice on February 26 while riding a motorcycle with his partner. That day, the man was surprised by two "motorcycle jets" who approached him and shot him to take over his vehicle. After the attack, both Cochiarella and his partner fell from the motorcycle, at which point the criminals took the opportunity to take the vehicle. The victim died instantly after being shot in the mouth and another in the shoulder. An investigator told Télam that Cochiarella's motorcycle, a Honda XR 150, was sold on the black market, information that the police received and was key to identifying the suspects. By order of prosecutor Carina Saucedo, in charge of the Functional Instruction Unit (UFI) 6 of Moreno, police from the Departmental Investigation Delegation (DDI) of that district carried out the investigation. After the field work, the procedures were ordered that allowed the arrest of Cortez, who has a criminal record for robberies and resistance to authority within the judicial department of San Martín. At the time of being arrested, the accused tried to escape with the help of family members and neighbors who threw stones and sticks at the police, but he was unable to do so. "When they raided the neighborhood, it seems that the accused became alert and began to move to where he was hiding. That's why he was detained in public," explained a person in charge of the investigation. Cortez is accused of being the driver of the black Honda motorcycle used to intercept Cochiarella, who was kidnapped during the arrest. Meanwhile, the accused shooter is a teenager who remains at large, sources indicated.
