Colombians will go to the polls this Sunday to define governors and mayors and, consequently, outline a new political map of the country that, although it will not be defining for the fate of Gustavo Petro's administration, it will constitute a first mark of vision. citizen about his management of just over 14 months and the probable recovery of the center-right. The polls predict opposition triumphs in the main cities and that is why several anti-Petro figures consider that the compulsa is, more than the chance of replacement in governorships and mayors, a way of expressing dissatisfaction with the national Executive. "Everything indicates that there will be a resurgence of the right, winning governorships and mayoralties, and that of course will change the balance in the national game for Petro. The left arrives divided in many places and made management errors and many communication errors. "The right is going to recover spaces that were not even thought of a year ago," predicted political scientist and analyst Cristian Palacio. From Valle del Cauca, where he advises some candidates, Palacio told Télam that after Petro's victory last year "it was thought that the left and the center-left could consolidate important local structures in order to build a strong force, but that was not achieved" and the sector "arrives divided in all regions, in all cities." Formally, some 39 million citizens are qualified to elect 1,102 mayors, 32 governors, 12,072 councilors, 418 deputies and 6,885 councilors for the period 2024-2027. The tables will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. (10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in Argentina). The elections come at an uncomfortable moment for the government: the alliance with which it arrived at the Nariño Palace no longer exists as such, the legislative agreements were broken and some scandals - the untimely departure of some of its officials, the complaints against its son Nicolás Petro- eroded his management.
