Eleven Buenos Aires police officers will be subjected to a jury trial, three of them for murder and eight for failing to fulfill their duties and covering up the crime of a soda factory worker who was attacked by gunfire during an alleged anti-drug procedure carried out in October 2022. in a neighborhood of the Buenos Aires town of Virrey del Pino, La Matanza district, judicial sources reported this Sunday. The victim of the act of institutional violence was Esteban Rafael Eduardo Bellido (39), nicknamed "Jujeño" or "Juje" and an employee of the Manaos factory, who died after receiving two police bullets on the morning of October 31, 2022, in the neighborhood Vernazza, from Virrey del Pino, during an alleged anti-drug procedure carried out by personnel from the Immediate Operations Tactical Unit (UTOI) of that district. After the request for elevation to trial made by the La Matanza Investigative Prosecutor Carlos Arribas and the elevation of the case to debate by the Judge of Guarantees 6 of that district, Carina Andrijasevich, the case was sent to the Oral Criminal Court (TOC) 5, chaired by Judge Matías Mariano Deane, who will be in charge of the technical direction of the jury process to be held in March 2024. Of the eleven police officers who will be tried, three will sit in the dock accused of being co-authors of the crime of "aggravated homicide for having been committed by a member of the security force and for the use of a firearm." They are Nicolás Darío Torres, Maximiliano Ariel Villalva and Kevin Ariel Vallejos, who will arrive at the debate detained in the Buenos Aires Penitentiary Service. Meanwhile, the remaining eight will face the accusation of "violation of the duties of the public official in ideal competition with aggravated concealment because the preceding fact is a particularly serious crime and for being a public official." Police officers Federico Florencio, Sofía Benítez, Gonzalo Díaz, Daiana Bazán, Matías Silva, Javier Imán, Jorge Acosta and Florencia Coria Barrios, who are currently under house arrest, will be tried for this crime. Although in the request for prosecution, prosecutor Arribas had requested that Silva, Imán, Acosta and Coria Barrios come to trial accused of the murder of Bellido and, alternatively, for concealment and failure to fulfill the duties of a public official, the judge of Guarantees partially dismissed them for the first accusation and sent them to trial for the second.
